Plain English for technical writing

Workshop information

The ability to write confidently and effectively is a vital skill – particularly when you’re writing about technical topics
for a non-technical audience
. The aim of this highly practical session is to show you how to use plain English to create clear,
concise, polished communications.

Using plain English for technical writing means that your intended audience will understand it the first time they read. It helps
you to engage your customers, so that they can easily understand information and follow instructions. It has the added benefits
that users feel more positive about your products and their experience. It can also save time and money by reducing customers’ mistakes and complaints – so they don’t have to contact your support team.

In this interactive workshop, a professional writer shows you how to apply plain English techniques to clearly explain
and convey complex information for a non-technical audience. Content can be tailored to the needs of participants.

Follow-up support: To embed the learning and confirm participants’ ability to apply plain English effectively in technical writing,
you can choose follow-up individual assignments/exercises. These are based on your in-house materials and will be returned
to participants, professionally edited with constructive comments.

After this workshop, you'll be able to:
