Plain English Ireland is based on a simple idea. There is no place for jargon, waffle or gobbledygook in written communications. Intended users should be able to understand the first time they read anything.
We work with organisations to help them ditch the jargon and use plain English when they write to their customers and other stakeholders.

Who we are
Sarah Marriott, a former Irish Times journalist and lecturer on the Journalism MA at Technological University Dublin, set up Plain English Ireland in 2009.
Since then, we’ve trained thousands of people who write at work, from staff in banks and legal firms to government agencies, charities and consumer bodies.
Our small team of specialist editors has edited millions of words – in websites, customer emails, letters, leaflets and reports.
Transform your communications
We help you figure out what you need to transform your communications. Sometimes, it takes an outsider to assess what you’re doing well and what could be better. That’s where we come in.
We’re good at putting ourselves in your customers’ shoes and assessing your writing. Then we show you how to make your communications stronger and more successful.
Some clients need a training programme, backed up with a style guide, and others simply need editing services. Whatever you need, we work with you every step of the way.
What makes us different?
We’re professional writers and editors, not just trainers. Learning from experts with deep experience gives participants the confidence and inspiration to build on their skills.
